Hungary proposes to the EU to conclude a European Pact on Competitiveness - 1

Hungary proposes to the EU countries to conclude a European Pact on Competitiveness and will seek the preparation of such a document during the Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of the year, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced at a press conference after a meeting in Rome with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni.

He noted that the decline in economic competitiveness is now the biggest problem in Europe, which is lower than the US and China in terms of overall GDP growth. “The goal of both the Hungarians and the Italians is to make the continent competitive,” said the head of government.

Orbán believes that if a European pact for competitiveness is not concluded, hundreds of thousands of jobs could be lost in EU countries in the next decade. According to the Prime Minister, the document should reflect issues such as the strengthening of economic ties with partners from other parts of the world and the “green transition”, which should not undermine the development of traditional industries.
