British company British Petroleum (BP) is cutting 4,700 jobs. The drastic measure is aimed at cutting costs, which in turn will lead to job losses for about 3,000 employees of the contracting companies. This was reported by Bloomberg agency with a link to an email from the energy company's CEO Murray Auchincloss.
“I understand and appreciate the uncertainty this brings for everyone whose jobs may be at risk“, the head of BP said in a message to employees. Auchincloss urged workers to "show care, be considerate of each other" especially during times of change, recalling the "wide range" of employee support.
According to him, in 2025 and further cost-cutting measures are planned for the coming years. Since June 2024, the company has suspended or suspended the implementation of 30 projects, focusing on the most profitable ones. He called BP's desire for digitalization and the introduction of artificial intelligence in the work of all divisions as a key aspect of further steps.
As previously reported, the company decided to abandon its ambitious goals of becoming a major player in the electricity sector after weak progress and widespread skepticism about renewable energy.
A few years ago, BP pledged to increase spending on green energy 10 times to $ 5 billion a year by the end of the decade and expand its renewable energy business 20 times to about 50 GW.
