Parvan Simeonov: We are entering a new stage of negotiations - 1

The silence of politicians is a good sign. The more they are silent, the more seriously they negotiate. This was stated by political scientist Parvan Simeonov in the program “From the Day” on BNT.

We are entering a new stage of negotiations. They have not been blown up and the chances for a regular cabinet exist, added sociologist Evelina Slavkova. One sign that something is going on is that the president is giving politicians more time to come to an agreement. Another sign is that politicians are not coming out to speak and blaming others for the failure of the negotiations, she specified.

The negotiation process can break at any moment if they rewind the spring. One of GERB's pillars is that they have given them everything they have been screaming for, but they want at least the prime minister. It seems very difficult for the DB to be sure that Continuing the Change (PP) will not blow things up in the end. PP has two open doors and if they want to play the political situation in a very clever way. One is to show up in the end and take the laurels, the other is to remain on their principled position not to collaborate with the mafia. The situation is difficult for the DB - on the one hand they are waiting for GERB to screw them over, on the other - PP. It is clear that sacrifices have to be made. One such is the judicial reform, Simeonov explained.

The way things are going in new elections, Peevski will raise his score, i.e. he has no interest in having a government. Kostadinov hopes to have a cabinet to show that he is the only opposition, APS hopes to have one so that it does not spill over to Peevski in the next elections. He won this battle. Borisov hopes to have a cabinet to eat these parties, the BSP hopes to have one, because being in power is a lifeline. PP-DB are wondering, the political scientist explained.

Yesterday's action by GERB was a wrong move. You can't say Rosen Zhelyazkov is very cool, and they don't want him. Develop this image further, he said.

The real scenario is for PP and DB to be convinced and receive all the concessions they want. Then it will be difficult for PP to explain why it doesn't want to be part of the cabinet. Society will now like those who play constructively, not so beautifully. Bulgarians want a government, even at the cost of compromises.

Slavkova cites sociological data, from which it is clear that over 70% of Bulgarians want a cabinet. “I think that GERB will make a gesture of support for the changes related to the judiciary”, she added.

”Up until now, when PP-DB has rejected a person, it has been because they are not sufficiently distant from Peevski. It will be extremely curious for me whether Borisov will stumble over Rosen Zhelyazkov. It is as if Peevski is getting used to the role of opposition. I think that the New Beginning will have some representation in its own government. I am convinced that Borisov is not a person who will break the alleged dependencies with Peevski. He will rely either on balancing or on someone else to do this job. Dogan did not do it, perhaps he is counting on Rumen Radev. This time, the big ego can ruin things”, summed up Parvan Simeonov. He agreed with his colleague that something new is brewing.
