Maya Manolova: Stop the arbitrariness of mobile operators over Bulgarians! - 1

After "Yettel" and "Vivacom" raises the monthly subscription fees for various services: by 1 leva for home phones and television, by 2 leva. for mobile and internet services.

Since inflation according to forecast data will be 1.9% and mobile operators will not be able to use this justification, they have invented - unperturbed by any control institution, a new unilateral increase, without any justification (the announcement of "Vivacom" and their website do not indicate the reason for the increase).

We insist that the deputies submit and adopt the law of Stand Up.BG to prohibit unilateral increases in the prices of mobile operators.”

Maya Manolova, chairwoman of the civic platform Stand Up.BG, called for this on social networks. According to her, telecoms do not have the right to unilaterally increase prices, regardless of the agreement that consumers can opt out. She warns that even so, the refusal would rarely be without penalties, since the general terms and conditions of the telecoms still include the conditions for paying penalties for discounts made from the basic prices under the contracts.

The decision that the former ombudsman indicated is:

„Court. The collective lawsuits that we filed (by the civil platform Stand Up.BG) against the three telecoms also appeal all unfair clauses in the contracts of the mobile operators, but due to harassment by the corporations, will end in at least a year.“

Or the other solution, according to her, is changes to the law that would prohibit mobile operators from unilaterally increasing prices under existing contracts. The civil platform states that they have prepared such a bill and have submitted it to the BSP parliamentary group – United Left in early December 2024 and call for its immediate adoption.

“Due to the inaction of the control institutions and the negligence of the deputies, the monopolists are bullying the people. Stop the arbitrariness of the mobile operators!” - Manolova called on the deputies.

We recall that on an annual basis, the turnover of each of the telecoms is over 1 billion leva. Each of them has over 1 million subscribers and an increase of 2 leva. for each service brings them tens of millions in pure profit - without costs for improving services and innovations.

Therefore, the civic platform Stand Up.BG insists that the deputies also adopt their bill for taxation of the excess profits of mobile operators, banks, pharmaceutical manufacturers, insurance companies, retail chains and arms dealers.
