The co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov is due to appear at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office on Friday to be charged in the case of the arrest of GERB leader Boyko Borisov.
The prosecutor's office claims that as Prime Minister, Petkov exceeded his authority by "unlawfully ordering the head and deputy head of the "Investigation and Methodological Guidance for the Investigation" department at the General Directorate of the "National Police" (GDNP), as well as the chief investigating police officer at the GDNP, to initiate pre-trial proceedings in violation of the Criminal Procedure Code against persons over whom they have no authority", specified novini.bg.
In addition, as Prime Minister, Petkov requested that the investigating police officers conduct an interrogation with him himself, without ever notifying the competent prosecutor. It was also ordered that searches and seizures be carried out in the homes of Borisov, Goranov and Arnaudova without permission from the relevant court and in the dark of the day, and that there were no grounds for urgency in the case, the prosecution claims.
The state prosecution claims that Kiril Petkov again ordered the director and deputy director of the GDNP-Ministry of Internal Affairs to order the police authorities subordinate to them to detain the persons Borisov, Goranov and Arnaudova for a period of up to 24 hours. The then-prime minister's goal was to cause them "damage, expressed in undermining their prestige and good name in society, and this has had significant harmful consequences for the state - undermining the prestige of the executive branch".
Kiril Petkov himself waived his immunity and declared what was happening to be the actions of "pathetic mafias".
Sarafov then requested several more parliamentary immunity, including that of Lena Borislavova.
A month ago, Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov requested Kiril Petkov's immunity so that he could be accused of exceeding his rights as prime minister and ordering the arrest of Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova on March 17, 2022.
