It reminds us of our historical roots in a magical way. Hemus has probably been built since the time of the Thracians. The pounding of holes in the car's interior does not let drivers sink into the temptations of modern consumer society.

The tunnels themselves have been repaired since time immemorial. Historical sources are silent about the beginning, it remains shrouded in mysticism.
„Quick work is a shame for the master“ – our people said. That is why the attention to detail in these repairs has been elevated to a cult. And the price does not matter. Bulgarians lost their lives here while we wait for the repairs. One feels the weight of history entering the tunnel.
This turns us towards the spiritual. Immersed in the vanity of our short earthly journey, it is desirable, if not mandatory, to cross ourselves upon entering and say our prayer.
The place also symbolizes the impermanence of the building of our nation. If the repairs are completed, we would probably lose a sense of direction. We would be left without a purpose in life, as they say. But when one pipe ends, the next one begins. Again a folk costume. Again bread and mentsi.
Traditions endure and are passed on to the next generation.
