With the election of the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet, there is hope for stabilizing and normalizing the situation in the country and for implementing the policies that citizens expect.
This was said by Alexander Yordanov – former MEP, Speaker of the National Assembly and Ambassador to Poland and Macedonia, to FOCUS.
He noted that most of the ministers in the newly elected government have serious managerial experience behind them. "They are not amateurs, they are not random in politics and in governance, figuratively speaking, they did not land from Canada. They are experts in their fields", believes Yordanov.
According to him, the participation of leaders from the left in the government only emphasizes its political character. “The government sharply distances itself from this model that many have been talking about - the model of the expert cabinet and the so-called equidistant prime minister. We see that GERB is giving some of its brightest political figures, who are also experts in their fields, to the government, and the BSP is participating directly with its leaders. We must accept this as a positive fact, because in this way both GERB, the BSP, and the ITN will in some sense bear responsibility for this government. If they fail, if there are any scandals, if they do not do their job, then in the next elections they will be punished by the voters“, said the former Speaker of the National Assembly.
According to him, in recent years all political forces have behaved like opposition. – – They attacked each other, they were in opposition to each other. Now they have managed to form a government of opposition parties in the name of the interests of the citizens. It is no coincidence, in my opinion, that GERB leader Boyko Borisov mentioned that he would continue his efforts to expand the coalition, repeatedly hinting that he would like to see the "Democratic Bulgaria" union in it. That would be good for the country", believes Alexander Yordanov.
Currently, there is no united opposition in parliament, he said. "A strong state with strong state governance is created when the government is strong, united and when there is a united opposition against it. I will watch with great interest how parties such as PP, "Vazrazhdane", MECH, Delyan Peevski's MRF will achieve unification," commented Yordanov.
He believes that Delyan Peevski's role in Bulgarian political and public life is being overexposed and his figure is being demonized. "However, it is an honor for him that he remains calm in the plenary hall. It is not normal for Bulgarian politicians to wash their hands of this or that action, to justify their incompetence in the name of a politician, especially since there are real voters behind him, and much more than those who supported the BSP. This nonsense with the cordon sanitaire must stop sooner or later, in order for the political situation in the country to normalize,“ stated the former Speaker of the National Assembly.
