The Chairman of the European party “Europe of Sovereign Nations” and leader of the “Vazrazhdane“ delegation in the European Parliament Stanislav Stoyanov delivered a speech on the Geopolitical and economic consequences for transatlantic relations after Donald Trump's inauguration.
“The election of Donald Trump is a chance for the EU to improve its partnership with the US. But not as a subordinate, but as an equal partner that protects the interests of its sovereign member states. Such a partnership can only flourish if it is based on equality in relations. Unfortunately, however, with leadership like the present one, the EU shows that it does not respect itself.
How in that case will we make others respect us!?”, said Stanislav Stoyanov from the rostrum of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
He noted that the interests of the United States, which view global challenges through its own prism, could differ from ours in Europe. According to Stoyanov, defining and defending European interests is our duty.
“But tell me this: President Trump is a strong leader - if he wants to talk to a strong EU leader, who would it be? For almost three years now, the EU has been unable to offer any diplomatic solution to end the war on its own continent. We can only hope that someone across the ocean will do it for us,“ Stoyanov said.
In the coming years, the EU must achieve a balance in its relations with the US, achieve a stable peace and work for the well-being of both citizens and industries. “The Europe of Sovereign Nations stands behind these principles and will defend them to the end”, Stoyanov also noted.
