Myara Agency: 57.1% of Bulgarians are fundamentally against the euro, 30.8% accept the introduction - 1

Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone will clearly encounter the public skepticism that has become common in recent years. This is shown by the rapid independent poll by the “Myara“ agency between January 29 and 31. The question “In principle, are you “for“ or are you “against“ Bulgaria adopting the euro as its currency?“ gives the following picture: 57.1% are fundamentally “against“, and 39% are fundamentally “for“. The rest are hesitant.
The data confirm the picture from a series of different surveys by agencies over the years. Against this background, the results on the more specific question of when Bulgaria should enter the eurozone are not surprising either - asked with the deliberate clarification that adopting the euro is part of our country's agreements to finalize European integration. With the options of January 1, 2026, postponement or practical refusal, no clear majority emerges, but still the most serious accumulation remains in the option “The euro should never be adopted” - 41.4%. 30.8% accept the introduction, but want it to happen later, and 25.7% are in favor of the introduction from January 1, 2026. The rest are hesitant.
The data show that older people are also those who show more concerns. This can be attributed to greater sensitivity to issues of sovereignty, more nostalgia, lack of adequate information, malicious campaigns, greater fear of a possible increase in the cost of living, and many other factors. Only a deliberately in-depth study can analyze the reasons. In any case, against this background, the introduction of the euro will require serious managerial will, persuasion, and information work.

The data are from an independent telephone survey by the sociological agency “Measure“, conducted between January 29 and 31, 2025 among 801 adult Bulgarian citizens. The maximum standard deviation is ±3.5 at 50% shares. 1% of the sample is equivalent to about 54,000 people.
