The Israeli army announced today that it had struck a weapons depot of the Palestinian Islamist movement “Hamas“ in southern Syria, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
“(Air Force) fighter jets recently struck [...] a weapons depot of the terrorist organization “Hamas“ in the Deir Ali area in southern Syria“, the Israeli military said in a statement.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed today's release of three more Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza by the Palestinian Hamas movement, while again calling for a two-state solution to the conflict, which includes the creation of a Palestinian state, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
“It is good that additional hostages have now been released, including one with a connection to a German citizen“, Scholz said in the eastern German city of Potsdam.
One of the three men released today by the Palestinian armed group “Hamas“ under the terms of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, is the husband of a German-Israeli citizen who was also taken hostage during the October 7 attacks before being released in November 2023.
“We are now doing everything we can to ensure that additional hostages are released and that the truce does not simply expire, but that the current ceasefire can lead to lasting peace“, Scholz said.
“The two-state solution is precisely what should emerge as a hopeful prospect from the current cessation of hostilities“, he added.
German Foreign Minister Analene Baerbock also welcomed the hostages' release, but called it “unbearable that “Hamas“ again publicly shows the three hostages at the last moment and forces them to give “interviews“.
