The conference held yesterday in defense of the Bulgarian lev was attended by the MEP from the “Europe of Sovereign Nations” and elected from the “Vazrazhdane” list; Stanislav Stoyanov. We recall that Stoyanov very recently became the chairman of the “Europe of Sovereign Nations” party.

He was in Sofia for two days to attend the conference organized by “Vazrazhdane” to preserve the Bulgarian lev, which was attended by MPs from the political organization, public figures and experts, including one of the most influential economists in the world - Prof. Steve Hanke.

The forum was opened with a welcome address by the chairman of “Vazrazhdane” and the PG of “Vazrazhdane” - Kostadin Kostadinov, after which Stanislav Stoyanov - MEP and chairman of the European party “Europe of Sovereign Nations” also addressed the attendees.

“Such forums should have started to be held much earlier and should have been an initiative of those in power. It was right to allow and implement a referendum for preserving the Bulgarian lev and against the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, so that the public could be asked about this very important issue. Unfortunately, we saw that this did not happen and in practice, from my point of view, the issue of the eurozone has two aspects. One is purely moral, and that is that those in power did not want the Bulgarian people to be consulted.

From a moral point of view, there are many parties in power in Bulgaria that claim to be for change, for democracy, for European development, for rights and freedoms, but in practice the right of the Bulgarian people to be heard was easily ignored. The other is purely expert, on which we will discuss with those present here several important issues. These are: State of the Bulgarian economy and macroeconomic risks of a hypothetical introduction of the euro;

Effects on the income and savings of Bulgarian citizens; Motives for pressure to abolish the Bulgarian lev and the currency board; Democracy and transparency of the process; Economic and financial prospects for the eurozone and the European Union.

I will leave the expert part to the economists and specialists who are here today, and I will return to the moral moment. The referendum is the most democratic instrument. In the European plan, too, the European institutions proclaim themselves and present themselves as extremely democratic. The European Parliament is called the “Home of Democracy”. That is why we are preparing a declaration in defense of democracy, which will be supported by the parliamentary group “Europe of Sovereign Nations” and will be sent to Ursula von der Leyen, Pascal Donahue, Christine Lagarde and Valdis Dombrovskis.

We have yet to see what their response will be.

So far, we have repeatedly informed the democratic European institutions about the attitudes of Bulgarian citizens regarding the eurozone. We will continue to send them letters in which we insist that the voice of the Bulgarian people be heard. However, there is no response from them at the moment.

Regarding the right of the sovereign to be questioned, our party “Europe of Sovereign Nations” has supported “Vazrazhdane”. You can be sure that the three MEPs of “Vazrazhdane” are working actively both in foreign policy and in the European plan. Our partners view our struggle to preserve the Bulgarian lev with understanding.

They themselves say that the eurozone is not working well. In a conversation with advisors to MPs from “Alternative for Germany”, they told me something very curious. They were categorical that in Germany the eurozone does not work well in the long term because it makes the German economy lazy.”, said Stanislav Stoyanov.

He also added that during the upcoming trip of a delegation of “Europe of Sovereign Nations”, in which he is also a member, to the US, this declaration will be submitted to their Congress as a statement of the will of the Bulgarian people.
