Additional financing, change of the financing model and differentiation of VAT on food will be proposed by "Vazrazhdane". This was told to journalists by the leader of the party Kostadin Kostadinov. According to him, a change in the financing model is necessary, since now it is financed on a decare basis, and not on a crop basis. Kostadinov announced that a working group will be created, including representatives of "Vazrazhdane", industry organizations and producers, to propose a package of legislative measures encouraging Bulgarian production. Our measures will be aimed at Bulgarian producers who produce for the Bulgarian market, added Kostadinov.
In his words, due to the policies of the governments over the last 35 years, more than 80% of the food in our country is imported, which turns Bulgaria into a dependent country, unless policies are undertaken to encourage Bulgarian production.
Bulgaria is one of the three countries in Europe that does not apply differentiated rates for food, he also said and indicated that they will make a proposal for a differentiated value added tax when the discussion of tax laws begins, including the state budget.
In the long term, we must think about restoring Bulgarian production, and first the food sovereignty of the state must be restored, which goes through the protection of Bulgarian production, added Kostadinov. According to him, this is the main problem, because EU legislation does not allow or it is difficult to conduct such a type of policy, except for the countries that have agreed on these policies. Bulgaria has not done this, he added.
Kostadinov called on citizens to shop at stores offering Bulgarian food. “Because the big ones export their profits outside Bulgaria. With our purchases, we subsidize the big stores and finance foreign economies, and this must be stopped“, he added.
As of today, four organizations have announced a boycott of large retail chains because of food prices.
