“We saved the night transport from the harmful and destructive proposals of GERB and BSP, who want to close it.” - this was stated by Boris Bonev's party after the Municipal Council failed to gather the necessary majority to cut the night transport and it remains running in its current form - 4 lines every night.
“The civic energy - of the protesters in front of the municipality and of the thousands who signed the petition to protect the night transport, gave results. What happened today is unprecedented for this mandate - reason and arguments overcame the economic majority“, said Boris Bonev, chairman of the party “Save Sofia“ and announced that the councilors from his group are already working on a proposal to improve the night transport service.
„There are many ways to optimize daytime transport so that it is more regular and convenient, but also to have resources available to maintain night transport. Therefore, we propose that the municipal administration, together with the councilors from all groups, develop a similar plan for the reorganization of all transport“, said Andrey Zografski and pointed out that although the night buses run hourly, they still see an increase in passengers every month. Zografski shared that proposals for reorganization will soon be made, starting with moving the transfer stop from Al. Batenberg Square to Sv. Nedelya Square.
„It is unacceptable for a European capital to not have 24-hour transport to its airport. The largest airport in Bulgaria is served between 05:10 and 23:30. After that - only taxis. That is why we will propose a new line H6 to both terminals, as well as a night tram line H5, which will connect Knyazhevo with the center and Orlandovtsi district“, explained Zografski.
“Not everyone has a car, not everyone wants to pay for taxis, some – cannot even afford it. The preservation of night transport is good news not only for those of us who do not drive, but also for people who do not feel comfortable getting into strangers' cars“, said Gergin Borisov, municipal councilor, and recalled that dozens of the opinions received by the Sofia Municipality are from women and people from vulnerable groups. They point out that night transport provides them with a safe and accessible way to get home.
“This is a victory for the citizens – they preserved their night transport. Now our task is to make it even more convenient!“, concludes the position of “Save Sofia“.
