A recidivist who held cocaine worth over 3 million leva will be sentenced to eight years in prison and a fine of 60 thousand leva, the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Sofia reported.
The man has been brought to court for illegal possession of high-risk narcotics in particularly large quantities for the purpose of distribution. The criminal act was committed under conditions of dangerous recidivism, the prosecutor's office explained.
On June 12 last year, on the main road E79 in the Simitli region, the car driven by the man was stopped by a police patrol.
Upon investigation, it was found that the driver had numerous criminal records and was convicted of drug-related crimes.
The police officers inspected the car and discovered a hole cut in the floor. 12 packages containing cocaine were found and seized there.
The total weight of the drug was 12,042 grams, with its value amounting to approximately 3,332,965 leva.
The verdict is subject to appeal and protest before the Sofia Court of Appeal.
