German tennis player Alexander Zverev said he was happy after his 7-6(5), 6-4 victory over Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and qualifying for the semi-finals of the ATP Finals tournament in Turin (Italy).

"He beat me too many times this year in important matches, so I'm happy that I did it this time," said Zverev, who lost to Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros.

"I feel like we have a pretty good rivalry and a great friendship at the same time, so it's always nice to play against him. He's a great guy and I'm looking forward to our next matches," he added.

In a dispute for a place in the final, Zverev will face the American Taylor Fritz, against whom he has three defeats in a row.

"I am happy to have won all three of my group games, but now the semi-final will be very difficult. "Fritz has beaten me the last few times, so I'm looking forward to this match," added the world number 2.

"My goal is always to be at the end of the tournaments in which I will participate, to reach at least the semi-final, final. So I have to work. . . In 2025, I hope to be a better player and show more persistence," commented Carlos Alcaraz after the loss.
