Iran will respond to the recent strike by Israel on military facilities ahead of the US presidential election, which will be held on November 5, CNN reported, citing a senior source close to Iranian authorities.
"The response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the aggression of the Zionist regime will be final and painful," the TV source said, without giving an exact date.
An unnamed Israeli official quoted by CNN told Ynet: "If they answer, they will get twice as much."
The US has urged Iran to refrain from attacking. White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said: "There is no need for Iran to respond to Israel's response. If he chooses to respond, the United States will support Israel and help defend the country." State Department spokesman Matthew Miller echoed this sentiment.
On the night of October 26, the IDF launched airstrikes on military sites in the three Iranian provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam. Iranian officials said the attack, which killed four soldiers, caused "limited damage" of the country, noting that Iran's oil industry was not affected.
The Israeli armed forces have targeted surface-to-air missile systems, air defense systems and missile production sites that have been fired into Israeli territory in the past year. The strike was in response to Iran's massive missile attack on Israel on October 1.
