Israel "will conduct operations" against "Hezbollah" even in the case of a cease-fire agreement in Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today, quoted by AFP and BTA.
"The most important thing is not (what it is) on paper, if there is (an agreement), but the fact that we will be obliged, in order to guarantee security in the northern part (of Israel), to systematically conduct operations against possible attacks by "Hezbollah", even after the ceasefire", Netanyahu emphasized before the parliament.
"There is no evidence that this agreement will be honored" by "Hezbollah", the Israeli prime minister added, mentioning "not only operations in response to ("Hezbollah") attacks, but also operations to prevent its strengthening.
"We will not allow "Hezbollah" to return to the position in which it was on October 6" 2023, on the eve of the start of the war between Israel and "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip. As of October 8, 2023, "Hezbollah" carries out almost daily shelling of northern Israel in support of its Palestinian allies.
The Israeli prime minister also said that Israel's airstrikes against Iran late last month had struck "an element of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program.
"It is not a secret, it was published that in this attack an element of the nuclear program was struck, but the program itself and its ability to function have not yet been removed," told the Knesset Netanyahu, whose country is considered by experts for the only nuclear power in the Middle East.
On Friday, the American news website "Axios" reported, citing unidentified US and Israeli officials, that the Israeli strike on Iran on October 26 had "destroyed a secret nuclear weapons research center at Parchin,", about 30 kilometers southeast of Tehran.
"Despite all the actions we have taken, both operationally and politically, (Iran) has made progress in enriching (uranium)". Although Tehran "still has a long way to go [...], we are challenged to act, we, the government of the State of Israel, and our American friends,", he stressed.
