Complaint against the surprise winner of the first round in Romania: He deceived the voters, hid his funding - 1

Two of the candidates for the presidency of Romania filed appeals in the country's Constitutional Court with a request to annul the results of the vote on November 24, it was reported BNR.

The presidential election in our northern neighbor was surprisingly won by the independent candidate, known for his pro-Russian and anti-NATO positions, Calin Georgescu, who received nearly 23% of the vote.

It is about Sebastian-Constantin Popescu, candidate of the "New Romania" party, and Christian Terhes, candidate of the Romanian National Conservative Party.

Popescu's complaint alleges that independent candidate Calin Georgescu broke the law by hiding his sources of funding and misleading the electorate, and that he received support outside the country's borders from state entities aimed at destabilizing Romania.

He emphasizes that, according to the official report of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Georgescu reported "zero lei" expenses for the entire campaign, despite having carried out what he said was a "large-scale campaign through online materials". Popescu also claimed that the independent candidate resorted to "manipulating Romanians by using disinformation techniques" and using troll farms, artificial intelligence and other means".

And in Christian Terhes's complaint, it is stated that the votes cast for Ludovic Orbán, candidate of the "Strength of the Right" party, who withdrew shortly before the vote, influenced the way the candidates were ranked. Orbán's name remained on the ballots, and the votes for him were considered invalid. According to Terhes, in a number of protocols the votes for Orbán were transferred "with a pen" to Elena Lasconi, leader of the center-right "Union for the Salvation of Romania", who placed second and is going to a runoff with Georgescu, scheduled for December 8.

The Constitutional Court in Romania will consider the two appeals today.
