Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Rome, where he met with Pope Francis and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgio Meloni.

Meloni and Orbán discussed "the situation in the Middle East, as well as their support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law, as well as their commitment with a view to the next conference to restore Ukraine, which will be hosted by Italy in July 2025," said a joint press release.

The Prime Ministers of Italy and Hungary are unanimous on the issue of illegal immigration and human trafficking. They express an urgent need for an updated legal framework for the return of migrants from the European Union, as well as the concept of safe countries of origin, the message added.

During the Meloni-Orbán meeting, a protest was held by the +Europe party against the "Hungary model": "Which is against media freedom, against human rights, anti-democratic, and a model for those who aim to destroy the EU EU", said party leader Benedetto Della Vedova.

Viktor Orbán also met Pope Francis in the Vatican. The press center of the papal state announced that they discussed the war in Ukraine, its humanitarian consequences and efforts to promote peace.

Topics of common interest were the Hungarian EU presidency, the role of the family and the protection of young generations.
