The US will leave NATO if allies are not paying more, said the newly elected US President Donald Trump in an interview with NBC News, quoted by BTA.
"If they pay their bills and treat us in a fair way, my answer is that: “That's right, we will stay in NATO,” said Trump, referring to "the" US allies in the Alliance. And then, in response to a question about whether he was considering leaving the Alliance otherwise, Trump said: “Exactly,”, reported France Press.
In the interview, Trump touches on a wide range of issues. On immigration, he says he wants to deport all undocumented immigrants from the US.
„I think we should do it. This is heavy. It's a very complicated thing,” Trump said in response to a question about whether he had plans to actually deport during the next four years of his term all those who are in the US illegally, reported AFP and Reuters.
According to France Presse, which has seen excerpts of Trump's interview with the American media, Trump has said that he will also try to end the "jus soli", or the "right to land" in the terminology of acquisition of foreign citizenship. In the specific case with American citizenship "jus soli" means that people born in the United States acquire American citizenship, even if they are children of foreign parents living in the United States. "Juice salts" means acquiring citizenship based on place of birth, not based on parental citizenship.
"You know, if someone sets foot on our territory, even with one foot, they are told: “Congratulations, you are now a citizen of the United States,”, Trump said in the interview. And then he added: "We're going to put an end to this because it's funny." However, when asked how he intends to cancel this right, which is included in the US constitution, Trump did not clarify the matter, notes France Presse.
