Russia detains man with dual citizenship on charges of plotting to sabotage a railway - 1

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSS) said it had detained a man with Russian and German citizenship on suspicion of plotting to sabotage a railway in Nizhny Novgorod, about 450 km from Moscow. According to the announcement, the FSS found an improvised explosive device in the detainee's home, as well as evidence of his connection with Ukrainian special services, cited by BTA.

The man, born in 2003, has not been identified, and authorities say he was in contact with a member of Ukrainian intelligence services, but these claims have not been confirmed by Ukrainian authorities.

Records released by Russian media outlet Zvezda show video footage of the detainee admitting to planning the attack, although it is unclear whether the confession was made under duress. The video shows him explaining that he was paid for acts of sabotage, including blowing up a freight train.

The FSS opened an investigation into the case and said it had also detained other Russian-German nationals linked to terrorist activities, without providing details.
