The Israeli government approved a plan on Monday to expand Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights, which its forces have occupied, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
It explained that it was acting in “light of the war and the new front they face in Syria“, as well as out of a desire to double the Israeli population in the Golan Heights.
“Strengthening the Golan Heights is strengthening the State of Israel and is particularly important at this time. "We will continue to hold (these territories), develop them to flourish, and settle in them," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.
