Jordan and Syria Restore Relations: Minister Ayman Safadi Visits Damascus - 1

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi will arrive in Damascus to meet with the new Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and other Syrian officials, BTA reports.

The visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation as part of efforts to stabilize the situation in Syria after the ongoing war.

Intercepting Migrant and Trafficking Flows

Jordan continues to be a major regional host of Syrian refugees, with the country hosting some 680,000 refugees and more than 1.3 million Syrians displaced within Jordan itself. The Jordanian government has observed increased drug trafficking, especially Captagon, along the Syrian-Jordanian border, which has an impact on the country's security.

Syrian stability and the impact on Jordan's security

Safadi expressed confidence that the stability of Syria will help to better ensure the security of Jordan's borders, as Jordan relies on stronger cooperation with Syria in the fight against arms and drug trafficking. Against this background, after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, more than 7,000 Syrians returned to their homeland in December 2023.

Jordan supports the reconstruction of Syria

Jordan emphasizes that the state "stands by the will of the brotherly Syrian people". At the same time, the stabilization of Syria is of vital importance not only for the country, but also for stability in the entire region.
