US Vice President Kamala Harris has canceled her planned visit to Germany and other countries due to the devastating fires currently raging in the Los Angeles area, the White House announced today, quoted by DPA.
Harris was planning to visit the "Spangdalem" air base on January 17 in West Germany, where she was to meet with US troops stationed there.
The trip, which would have been her last overseas trip as US vice president, was also to include visits to US military bases in Singapore and Bahrain.
However, due to the fires in the Los Angeles area, Harris decided to remain in the US to participate in the government's efforts to provide assistance to the affected areas, a White House statement said.
Yesterday, US President Joe Biden canceled his planned trip to Italy because of the fires.
On January 20, Republican Donald Trump is expected to take office as president, and Harris and Biden will leave their posts.
