European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has returned home after being hospitalized for a week with severe pneumonia, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Von der Leyen posted on the social network "Instagram" photo showing her working from home.
She spent about a week at the university hospital in the central German city of Hanover.
The European Commission said Von der Leyen was not in intensive care and had been in daily contact with her team while in hospital.
A Commission spokesman said Von der Leyen was suffering from severe pneumonia and had cancelled all travel plans for the first two weeks of January.
The spokesman said she was carrying out her “official duties” from her hometown of Hanover and that if all goes well, she will return to work from her office in the Commission building in Brussels in the middle of this month.
It was recently reported that Von der Leyen spoke by phone with Giorgia Meloni before the Italian Prime Minister's meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump in Florida at the weekend.
Tomorrow, the EC President plans to talk to the new Austrian interim Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg.
It remains to be seen whether the Commission President will be able to chair the regular meeting of the College of European Commissioners next week.
