Venezuela seeks international arrest warrant for opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez - 1

Venezuela's Attorney General Tarek Saab said his office has requested an arrest warrant and cooperation through Interpol for the capture of opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

After spending years in custody in Venezuela, Lopez now lives in Spain.

In recent days, the exiled Venezuelan opposition leader has sharply criticized the government in Caracas, amid protests against the swearing-in of President Nicolas Maduro for a third term last week. On Saturday, he wrote in "Ex" that former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe's statement that military intervention is needed in Venezuela should be "considered seriously".

López is being investigated for crimes related to incitement to use armed force against the state, treason, conspiracy and criminal association, Venezuela's attorney general said on state television yesterday.

On the same day, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil accused groups linked to the opposition of being involved in attacks in recent days against the country's diplomatic and consular missions in five countries - Portugal, Germany, Spain, Colombia and Costa Rica, the Associated Press reported.

So far, the main opposition coalition has not commented on these accusations, which Hill has not provided evidence to support.

The authorities in the five countries in question have not named those responsible for attacks.

A small incendiary device caused minor damage to the facade of the Venezuelan consulate in Lisbon.
