Putin: UN should not make unilateral decisions - 1

Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled why Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko was called “Mr. No.”

“Let me remind you that once in the Soviet Union our Foreign Minister [Andrey] Gromyko was called “Mr. No“. Why? Because even then, in the conditions of the Cold War, it was very difficult to coordinate all issues”, the president said at a press conference after negotiations with Iranian Head of State Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to Putin, the most important thing is “returning to understanding why the UN was created and adhering to the principles enshrined in the charter documents”.

„Of course, this is a complex instrument, but the UN was created at the time to seek acceptable solutions, and not to unilaterally implement unacceptable ones“, Putin pointed out.

„At one point, it seemed to someone that everything could be solved unilaterally and to subordinate the Organization itself to himself, and if it did not obey, then to declare it unnecessary. Then, when the need arises, he will remember what are the principles enshrined in the UN Charter“, Putin said.
