Orban: Ukraine and US actions threaten Europe with new energy crisis - 1

The actions of Ukraine, which stopped the transit of Russian gas, and the US, which imposed sanctions on oil and gas companies from Russia, threaten Europe with a new energy crisis. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is in Belgrade for talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the main topic of which was energy problems.

"In recent days, worrying events have occurred in the energy supply sector in Europe. The Ukrainians blocked the pipeline that supplies gas to Hungary, and the US administration imposed sanctions that caused an increase in energy prices in Europe. Europe is rapidly approaching a new energy crisis,“ the prime minister said in a video address from Belgrade broadcast on Hungarian television.

Orbán noted that the actions of Ukraine and the United States have already led to an increase in fuel prices in Europe. “What is happening now at Hungarian gas stations is simply outrageous“, the prime minister said. In his opinion, this threatens the well-being of the population and harms the economy. “Europe must avoid this“, the prime minister stressed.

Earlier, he said that the biggest threat to the national economy was the rise in oil and gas prices caused by Western sanctions against Russia. Orbán warned that a sharp increase in energy prices “could upset the government's economic plans”.
