The ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian group “Hamas“, which entered into force yesterday, includes basic conditions for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a hostage exchange, quoted by BTA.
Negotiated with the mediation of Qatar and the support of the US and Egypt, the agreement provides for the release of more than 230 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment in exchange for 33 Israeli hostages held by “Hamas“.
List of prisoners and those released
Israel has published a list of 734 detainees expected to be released in the first phase of the agreement. The releases will affect Palestinians convicted of committing or participating in attacks against Israeli citizens. On this list, 296 individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment and participated in attacks or bombings that resulted in the deaths of Israeli citizens.
Deportation and humanitarian aid
Among those released will be 236 prisoners who are to be deported to other countries, mainly Qatar or Turkey, upon their release. The first phase of the agreement also includes the release of some 1,900 Palestinians in exchange for 33 Israeli hostages. The freed ones will help create conditions for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region and will lay the foundation for a sustainable ceasefire and the future release of the remaining hostages.
