US President Donald Trump has revealed human losses for Russia and Ukraine in the war, which are dramatically higher than announced so far by both sides.
After taking office, Trump promised to try to end the full-scale war that Vladimir Putin started against Ukraine in February 2022.
In front of journalists at the White House, Trump said that it would be better for Putin to end this war. “About 1 million Russian soldiers have been killed, 700,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. Russia is bigger and has more soldiers [to lose]. But that's not a good way to run the country,“ said the new American president.
US President Donald Trump said that he will soon have a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin. After this, he will name specific dates for the end of the war in Ukraine.

In December 2024, Zelensky said that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died on the front since the beginning of the war. The casualties announced by Trump are much higher. The American president did not provide information on what data he was referring to. There is also a big discrepancy in the information about the number of Russian casualties. According to Trump, they are 1 million (only the killed soldiers), while Kiev claims that 822,000 Russian soldiers were “eliminated“ on the front, possibly referring to the total number of enemy soldiers killed and wounded.
Trump said he planned to speak soon with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump said Zelensky wanted to make a deal, but did not provide further details.
The US president, who was sworn in in Washington yesterday, also said Putin was destroying Russia by not wanting to reach an agreement. “Russia is facing big problems. Look at the economy, inflation”, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “I get along very well with him [Putin] and I hope he will agree to a deal,”, Trump stressed.
