China accuses Trump of "intimidation" - 1

China today described as "intimidation" the decision of the new US President Donald Trump to return Cuba to the list of state sponsors of terrorism, reported Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.

Washington's repeated use of this list "contradicts the facts" and "fully exposes the hegemonic, authoritarian and brutal face of the US", said at the regular press conference of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Guo Jiakun.

Beijing said it hopes to cooperate with Washington on trade issues after Trump threatened to impose high tariffs on Chinese goods. China is “ready to strengthen dialogue and communication with the United States and properly resolve differences between the two countries,” the foreign ministry spokesman said. He added that Beijing hopes to work with Washington for “the stable development of China-US economic and trade relations.”

He also said China was concerned about Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement again. “Climate change is a common challenge for all mankind, and no country can remain indifferent or (let) the problem be solved on its own,” Guo added.

China also pledged support for the World Health Organization (WHO) after Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to withdraw the United States from the organization and sharply criticized its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. "The role of the WHO should be strengthened, not weakened," Guo stressed, adding that "China will always support the WHO in fulfilling its mission" to safeguard "the health of mankind."
