Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is considering taking a new job in California, but has no intention of leaving his parliamentary seat in the House of Commons, say his close associates, quoted by the “Independent“ and the Bulgarian National Radio.
“Independent“ recalls that the former Tory Prime Minister met his wife in California and held a Green Card before being forced to give it up when he became Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Rishi Sunak has long been the subject of rumors that he will move to the “Sunshine State“ after the heavy defeat in the general election last summer. Sunak and his wife still own a luxury penthouse in America worth around £5m.
He has now announced that he will take up a visiting fellow role at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution in California, and that he will join the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University as a member of the World Leaders’ Circle.
Sunak said he had a huge attachment to both universities, which have shaped his life and career. His aides have denied that his new role in California would mean he would step down as an MP, triggering a by-election for his seat. The two positions are the former prime minister’s first outside parliament since returning to the backbenches of the House of Commons.
