Yemeni Houthi rebels unilaterally released 153 prisoners of war today, the International Committee of the Red Cross said, quoted by the Associated Press, reported BTA.
The Houthis gave indications yesterday evening that they plan to release prisoners of war as part of their efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East after a ceasefire was reached in the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas".
However, the release of the prisoners of war was preceded by the detention of seven Yemeni UN employees, which caused the dissatisfaction of the world organization.
The Red Cross said it "welcomes the unilateral release as another positive step towards the resumption of negotiations" to end the war in Yemen.
