The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that two fighter jets were scrambled tonight to monitor Romanian airspace in Tulcea County, near the border with Ukraine, due to a new attack by Russian drones against Ukrainian infrastructure, Agerpres reported, BTA reported.

The ministry notes that its surveillance systems have signaled unmanned aircraft in Ukrainian airspace, with flight paths close to the border with Romania. For this reason, two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea at around 03:40 and returned home at around 05:00.

The RO-ALERT system for the protection of the population in Tulcea County was also activated, and the alert was canceled at 04:50. Data from the radar systems of the Romanian Air Force do not indicate that the observed air targets entered the country's national airspace.

Teams of the Ministry of Defense will today survey the areas where risks may arise as a result of the situation and will continue airspace surveillance missions. NATO is informed in real time about the situations caused by the attacks.
