Argentine opposition threatens President Milley with impeachment over cryptocurrency scandal - 1

Argentine opposition lawmakers have threatened President Javier Milley with impeachment, Reuters reports, quoted by News.bg.

The reason is his public support for a little-known cryptocurrency, which rose sharply in price, but only hours later collapsed to minimal values.

On February 14, Milley published information on the social network X about the cryptocurrency $LIBRA, which immediately jumped to almost $5 per coin. Within hours, however, its value fell below $1, which led to serious financial losses for investors.

According to the Argentine Fintech Chamber, the case resembles the so-called "rug pull" – a scheme in which cryptocurrency developers artificially inflate its price through promotion, then sell their shares en masse and abandon the project.

"This scandal, which is damaging the international image of our country, requires us to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president," said MP Leandro Santoro, a member of the opposition coalition.
