Sweden does not rule out the possibility of sending its troops to Ukraine after the end of the war as part of an international peacekeeping mission. This was stated by Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard in an interview with the national radio, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Her comment comes after the statement of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who said that he was ready to send British troops to Ukraine to maintain peace. According to him, this move would show the United States that European countries should be an active party in the negotiations to end the conflict.
“First of all, we need to achieve a just and lasting peace, based on international law, that respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The most important thing is to ensure that Russia will not be able to simply withdraw, build up forces and attack Ukraine or another country again in a few years“, Stenergard emphasized.
She added that after achieving such a peace, the international community must ensure its sustainable observance, and in this context, the Swedish government does not rule out any possible option.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in Saudi Arabia for expected talks with Russian representatives aimed at finding a diplomatic solution to the almost three-year-old military conflict.
