Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein will meet today with his colleagues from Syria and Iran to discuss the situation in Syria, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

The meeting will take place against the backdrop of an offensive by Syrian rebels that began last week when they seized the main northern city of Aleppo from Iran-backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. After that, the rebels also captured the city of Hama.

Yesterday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will arrive tomorrow.

Influential Shiite political leader in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, called on Iraq and Iraqi armed groups "not to interfere" in the conflict in neighboring Syria.

In his profile on the social network "X" he stressed "the need for Iraq, its government (...) armed groups and security forces not to interfere in the affairs of Syria, as some used to do in the past".

The leader of the radical Islamist group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and head of the Syrian rebel coalition fighting the Syrian government has called on neighboring Iraq to stay out of the conflict in Syria. "We call to prevent Iraq from entering the new furnace of what is happening in Syria,” said Abu Mohammed al-Julani.

For Baghdad, the "red line" that should not be crossed in the Syrian conflict would be if the "terrorist forces" advanced east into Syria, "closer to the Iraqi border,", AFP reported, citing an Iraqi official. So far, no decision has been made to intervene in Syria.
