„If there is any threat to the Constitution, it does not come from not allowing compromised persons into The Presidency”, he stressed
The purpose of the consultations is to discuss the possibility of forming a government. Talks with a parliamentary group which has previously stated categorically that it will not take part in this process of forming a government and has excluded itself from it, and which is insisting strongly on immediate new elections – talks with such a parliamentary group are by definition pointless. Thus, President Rumen Radev commented on why he did not invite the PG of “DPS– A New Beginning” of consultations.
„There is also something else that is essential – it seems to forget that the leader of this parliamentary group is sanctioned by two partner countries – USA and Great Britain, for grand corruption. This is somehow being forgotten by a number of other institutions, but not by the Presidency and it will not be forgotten, the head of state emphasized. He explained that his actions are strictly guided by the Constitution, by respect for the rule of law and our Euro-Atlantic partners.
„The consultations will be held and the mandates will be delivered, as indicated in Art. 99 of the Constitution. If there is any threat to the Constitution, it does not come from not allowing compromised persons into the Presidency, but from their infiltration as metastases in a number of other institutions. I will continue to insist that these methods and these institutions greatly strengthen their immunity against exactly such malicious influences," Radev added.
In response to the question whether with the denial of access to the consultations of the "DPS - New beginning" is influencing the political process, Radev said: “I respect the choice of every free Bulgarian citizen. But no Bulgarian citizen can be free until we build a truly effective legal state. This cannot happen while the competent authorities close their eyes to what is seen from the other side of the world – that there is an oligarchy in Bulgaria. And not only does she have it, but she has a huge appetite to finally seize power in the state”, is his opinion.
The President also touched upon the article by The Times, according to which a group of Bulgarian citizens accused of espionage had “strong ties” at the top of the Bulgarian government, as well as with Radev. “Any crook can speculate on my name for personal gain. Raise the price you expect someone to pay. This is by no means an isolated case. I expect the competent authorities, who have been working intensively with their British counterparts, to dispel these speculations as soon as possible, he insisted.
