MES warns: The highest level of avalanche danger is in force  - 1

The weather conditions for tourism are bad, the Mountain Rescue Service (MSS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) reported to BTA.

The highest level of avalanche danger is in force, due to the heavy snowfalls in recent days.

It is cloudy and foggy. Temperatures are negative and between -10° to -15°. In some places, light snow is falling, in the Rhodope Mountains and Bansko, Pirin. In some places in the Stara Planina region, Botev Peak, a moderate wind is blowing.

There is a risk of frostbite, MES also warns. There have been no recorded incidents involving tourists in the past 24 hours.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) reported that it will be cloudy and foggy over the mountains. In many places there will be snowfall. Moderate to strong easterly winds will blow, along the ridges - south-southwest. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around minus 5°C, at 2000 meters - around minus 8°C.

A minimum temperature of -12 degrees was measured this morning in Pamporovo, the Mountain Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross - Studenets base told BTA. The snow cover in the resort reached 120 cm after snowfall in recent days.
