Pavlina Panova: Before we rule on the election process, the Constitutional Court will not decide other cases - 1

Before we rule on the election process, the Constitutional Court will not decide other cases. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Judge Pavlina Panova, President of the Constitutional Court, specifying that the court is still far from issuing a decision on the case for the parliamentary elections on October 27, which is pending before the Constitutional Court, but she did not commit to a deadline.

"In recent years, there has been increased expectation for the Constitutional Court, this is also reflected in the number of cases - they are a figure that has never happened in history for so many years. Obviously, the Constitutional Court must resolve political problems and disputes in the state by legal means. We do not choose the cases to consider. Whatever we are referred to, we must deal with and accordingly - pronounce ourselves", she commented.

Judge Panova explained that the experts in the case for the election process did an impeccable job and within the deadline set for them - January 10:

"Hearing the expert opinions is only part of the evidentiary work carried out by the Constitutional Court. We have requested evidence from the CEC, and we are about to request new ones. When we collect all the evidence in the case - both the expert conclusions and the written evidence - they will be collectively assessed and we will draw conclusions regarding the facts of the case. Based on these facts, we will also decide on the final result".

"The expert's (Krassimir Kalinov - editor's note) conclusion about the political party, which expects to collect the necessary votes to pass the 4% barrier, was absolutely hasty. This expert is one of the 22 experts who worked on the case. He cannot be familiar with the expert opinions of the other expert groups. Even we ourselves do not know what picture will emerge as a result of the overall assessment. The information published in some media outlets about which parties will lose how many votes is also incorrect," the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court specified.
