Just a few days of flu vacation before the upcoming midterm, which is in early February, can be an effective measure to stop the epidemic. This was stated by the former head of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev, quoted by "Telegraph".
„When the peak of the flu comes, if even one or two days of flu vacation are given, combined with days off, this usually gives a very good effect. This has been our experience over the last seven years.
It would be very good if intelligence were shown and the upcoming midterm vacation were extended by a few days, followed by Saturday and Sunday. Both the students will not lose out on the learning process, and isolation will be ensured. We need to think and make the best decision for the children“, the professor explained.
However, practice in recent years has also shown another trend - when children are on vacation, they usually fill the malls. Parents, wanting to relax, take their children to shopping centers. Malls are no less dangerous than schools at the moment.
Nine districts in our country are in an epidemic. Vratsa has declared one as of Monday. Students in Vratsa and Plovdiv will study online, while children in Yambol and Plovdiv are already being taught remotely.
Sofia region is facing an epidemic. For the previous week, from January 13 to 19, 129 people with flu-like symptoms were registered in the district per 10,000 population, the director of the Regional Health Inspectorate (RHI) announced – Sofia-region, Dr. Rozalina Chobanova.
“There is still time until the peak of the flu, which will undoubtedly come, and with many cases, because I notice that quite a few people use masks in public places, on public transport, in food stores“, also notes Prof. Kantardzhiev.
During this period, it is imperative to consider a little more distance and a little more attention from people for whom a flu infection would have a bad effect on their health. These are the elderly with chronic diseases, people with autoimmune diseases and people on systemic therapy, he also says.
