11 regions in the country are in a flu epidemic. In these places, online training has been switched to schools. The information is analyzed every day. Will there be a national flu epidemic - – “In focus” is the state health inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev.
”The flu progresses differently in each individual organism. It exacerbates chronic diseases”, said Kunchev.
He specified that we will probably reach the peak values of the wave by the end of the new week. “Declaring a flu epidemic does not lead to any specific actions”, explained Kunchev.
According to the chief state inspector, the morbidity rate during the past week was exactly the same as it was last year. “The flu is not one of the usual respiratory viruses. You can't go wrong with the flu - high fever, headache, difficulty getting out of bed. Both the headache and the fever are more difficult to control. The cough and runny nose appear later. If the cough becomes deeper, producing phlegm, this is a sign that there may be a bacterial infection”, Kunchev added.
In the cities of Kardzhali, Smolyan, Razgrad, Ruse and Sofia, the number of cases is under 100 per 10,000. In Blagoevgrad, the number of patients registered with general practitioners is about 400 per 10,000, he said.
”Antiviral drugs have a good effect, but they must be taken in the first 24 hours, at most in the first 48 hours after the onset of symptoms”, Kunchev explained. He mentioned that even the most basic preparations have side effects.
"It's not bad to limit contacts for these 2-3 weeks, to stay at home", he advised. "If we have a person who is coughing, sneezing, the measures are masks, ventilation. A person is most contagious hours before the first symptoms and in the first two or three days", Kunchev added.
