The head coach of Bayer (Leverkusen) Xabi Alonso was very happy after the victory over Inter in the Champions League. He highlighted the patience demonstrated by his team as the main factor for success, quoted by sportal.bg.

“It is very nice to get a positive result against such a strong opponent. We showed persistence, we waited for our chance and we took it,”, said Xabi Alonso.

The mentor of “aspirins” specially praised the author of the winning goal, Nordi Mukiele. The defender, attracted by Paris Saint-Germain, brought success to the German team in the 90th minute.

“Mukiele fit into the team better and better. This goal is his peak with the Bayer team so far, but I am sure that he is yet to show his best,” said Xabi Alonso.

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi was not particularly disappointed after the loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. “The Nerazzurri” were scorched by a late goal from Nordi Mukiele, but Inzaghi is confident that this defeat will not prevent the team from finishing the main stage of the tournament in the top eight.

“The loss will not affect our path in the Champions League, we will be in the top 8 tomorrow anyway. Our ranking for the next phase remains in our hands. Surely a draw would have worked for us, but it wouldn't have solved anything”, Inzaghi stated.

“We should have shown more offensively. In this respect, Bayer was superior to us. The opponent acted very organized, and we were not at our usual level in terms of ball possession”, admitted the coach of Inter.

“We are aware that we did not show our best, but I want to give the hosts what they deserve. We will think again about the Champions League in January, until then we have important matches in Serie A, the Italian Cup and the Super Cup, added Simone Inzaghi.
