The national team Semen Novikov (blue jersey) was left with a silver medal in the 87 kg classic style category at the European Championships in Bratislava, after losing 3:4 to Hungarian David Loshonci in the final, BTA reports. Bulgaria already has a full set of medals from the championship on the Old Continent, after Magomed Ramazanov became the champion in the 86 kg freestyle, and Bilyana Dudova reached the bronze medal in the 62 kg women's category.
The bout did not go well for Novikov. The Hungarian managed to build a 3:0 lead after two unsuccessful attacks by the Olympic champion, after which the Bulgarian national was put on the ground and an additional point was awarded to Loshontsi.
Novikov defended himself and had to catch up in the second half of the match when he got a chance to attack from the ground. The Olympic champion carried the Hungarian once, but was unable to return the last point and was left with a silver medal.
