Huawei is preparing to launch a new car brand, doing so in cooperation with SAIC. According to Car News China , the new brand will be called Shangjie, and its official launch is scheduled for April 10. The first model will be a mid-size crossover aimed at a young audience and equipped with modern "smart" features.
The Shangjie crossover is expected to go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2025. The price of the new product will be in the range of 150,000 to 200,000 yuan (approximately 21,000 - 28,000 US dollars). This makes it the most affordable car in the range of Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), a division of Huawei that develops intelligent transport.
The first car of the Shangjie brand will probably be built on an existing SAIC model. One possible option is the mid-size electric crossover Marvel RC7, produced under the premium sub-brand IM (Intelligent Mobility). There is also speculation that the platform of the Rising Auto or Roewe brands, which are part of SAIC, could be taken as a basis.
Like other Huawei cars, the new crossover will receive an improved autonomous driving system, as well as a media system running the company's HarmonyOS operating system. At the same time, the model can be presented in two versions - all-electric and with an "extender" - a small internal combustion engine that does not have a direct connection to the wheels and serves as a generator.
This is Huawei's fifth attempt in the automotive industry. Previously, the company joined forces with Seres Group (brand Aito), Chery (brand Luxeed), BAIC Group (brand Stelato) and JAC (brand Maextro). However, Shangjie has a chance to become the most popular project due to its lower starting price.
The trend of cheapening "smart" cars in China is gaining momentum. For example, the recently introduced Aito M5 Ultra, equipped with Huawei's latest autonomous driving system ADS 3.3, is offered at a price starting at 229,800 yuan (about 32,000 US dollars). The new Shangjie crossover could further strengthen Huawei's position in the fight for the market of affordable "smart" cars.
