Lithuania's six-month Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2027 will cost Vilnius more than EUR 140 million, the Ministry of Finance of the Baltic Republic informed the agency BNS.
„The preparation for this important event and the presidency itself will require EUR 141 million. In 2025, within this framework, funding will amount to 16.3 million EUR, in 2026 - 57.3 million EUR, in 2027 - 67.4 million EUR“, the announcement says.
About 300 events are tentatively planned, 20 of which will be summits. The team responsible for the presidency will include about 1.5 thousand civil servants.
A detailed program will have to be developed jointly with Ireland, which holds the Lithuanian presidency, and Greece, which will take over after the Baltic Republic.
