British meteorologists are warning of rain, snow and wind gusts of up to 115 km/h in the United Kingdom on New Year's Eve and the first day of 2025, BNR reported.

A code yellow has been issued for Northern Ireland, Northern England and parts of Scotland from Tuesday, after which it may be extended to most of the United Kingdom on Wednesday.

The warnings are in effect from today and will remain in force until the morning of January 2. Severe travel disruption is expected over the next four days.

The forecast for strong winds has already led to the cancellation of the Torchlight Procession on Sunday evening, which kicks off Edinburgh's traditional New Year's Eve celebrations.

Heavy rain is expected on December 31 and New Year's Eve, which could lead to flooding in western Scotland. Snow is expected in northern Scotland.

Meanwhile, dense fog continued to cause problems at airports for a third day. There were flight delays at all London airports on Sunday, but Gatwick was the worst hit, with several flights cancelled.
